In this chapter, Christopher talks about Sherlock Holmes and the author of Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. But Christopher doesn’t like Doyle, because he isn’t like Sherlock Holmes and he joined the Spiritualist Society, because he belived in the supernatural.
He also narrates of two girls often play with fairies and they take photos with them. Christopher thinks that these are just drawings on pieces of paper. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is the opinion that these are real fairies. But Christopher thinks that the Doyle’s opinion is stupid, because these fairies look like fairies in old books are and not real. This is another point why he doesn’t like him. Later the girls have confessed that the fairies are fake. And in Christopher’s opinion this shows that people want to be stupid and they don’t want to realise the truth.
